Abstract: A five-day training of KRPs in teaching of English language and literature at secondary and senior secondary levels for the states of Himachal Pradesh and Haryana was organised from 1620 November 2009 at RIE, Ajmer. It was a need-based programme, which was attended by thirty-two (32) KRPs from Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.The training programme commenced with an inaugural session that was attended by Prof. V.G.Jadho (Principal, RIE, Ajmer), Prof. T.J.Vidhyapati (Head, DESM), Dr Rajesh Mishra (Head, DESSH) Dr. Nagendar Singh (Head, DEE) and a host of faculty in addition to resource persons Prof. D Ganguly and Dr. S.K. Pranami. While inaugurating the programme Prof. V .G Jadhao stated that English is a language of opportunities and a person with knowledge of English is in great demand for different jobs both in India and abroad. Dr. Saryug Yadav, programme coordinator presented the working paper and highlighted the major aims and objectives of the five-day training programme. Prof. D Ganguly while speaking on the occasion said that language cannot be used in a vaccum. It requires some suitable context and literature is the best context where language can be used. He opined that literature is a thing of beauty because it has the beauty of language, beauty of form, beauty of thoughts and beauty of emotions.
