Abstract

Physics, like any other science, has the following central goal: To discover basic knowledge enabling one to predict and explain many observable phenomena. The main distinguishing characteristic of Physics is its generality, i.e., its predominant interest in widely relevant aspects of nature. (For example, physics is centrally interested in the general principles needed to understand all atoms and molecules; but it leaves to chemistry more specific studies of various kinds of molecules.).
