Abstract: Training of KRPs in Teaching of English Language and Communication Skills at Secondary level was organized from 12-16 September 2011 at Regional Institute of Education, Ajmer, which was attended by 38 KRPs from (I&K_and Himachal J?.radesh. The major objectives of the programme were to train thdKRPs in content, pedagogy and assessment (CCE) with a special emphasis on effective communication skills at Secondary level. Keeping in view of the objectives of the programme and expectations of the KRPs, the methodology being adopted during the five-day training programme included lecture cum discussion, demonstration, working in pairs and groups, using media in-puts including computer, software packages, power-point presentation etc. In addition to this, activities including role play, language games and group works on different components of communication skills were conducted in which the participants took very keen interest and they found the activities quite relevant in improving their proficiency in English language. The major contents deliberated during the 5-day training programme included Language, Literature and Communication; Constructivist Pedagogy ;Communicative Approach to ELT; Verbal and Non-verbal Communications; Effective Communi cation Skills; Approaches to Grammar; Language of Oral Discourse; Language of Written Discourse; Understanding Poetry; Understanding Drama/One Act Play; Understanding Short Story; Enriching Vocabulary; Assessment/Evaluation (CCE) in English.
