Abstract: A research study entitled A Study of the Impact of Medium of Instruction on Conceptual Understanding of Subject Content at Primary Level (PAC Code-15.02) was conducted during the academic session 2010-2011 by a team of five faculties, namely Dr. Saryug Yadav, Associate Professor of English, Dr. S.V. Sharma, Assistant Professor of Physics, Dr. Ram Niwas, Assistant Professor of Hindi, Sri. Albert Horo, Assistant Professor of Geography and Dr. Rana Pratap, Assistant Professor of Physics. The study intends to investigate the linguistic situation in ten (10) Primary Schools (3 English medium and 7 Hindi medium from both rural and urban areas) of Ajmer district of Rajasthan. It aims to shed light on the choice of language among teachers and pupils in the identified schools and to study if the choice of language of instruction influences the performance and the pupils’conceptual understanding of the subject content.
